Exploring Kalkan with Kids

Boat Day with Aristos Water Sports

For an unforgettable day, we hired a boat from Aristos Water Sports and spent the day exploring the bay—snorkelling, swimming, and even stopping onshore for a natural mud mask! This experience was a huge hit with our kids, and it’s a unique way to see the beauty of Kalkan from the water.

Discovering Kas Old Town

A short drive away, Kas offers a wonderful day trip with its atmospheric Old Town. We enjoyed strolling through the charming streets, stopping for a drink at Kas Beach Bar, where the kids had a blast jumping off the diving platform straight into the clear waters.

Kalkan Old Town

Kalkan itself is a delightful place to explore with the family. The quaint shops, cobblestone alleys, and rooftop views give the town a unique charm, while the friendly locals and relaxed vibe make it welcoming for families with children.

Where to Stay: Family-Friendly Hotels

We stayed at Payava by True Blue, a hotel that was incredibly welcoming to families. From the friendly service to the spacious rooms, it was well-suited for kids. The pool area was particularly enjoyable, with pool toys that kept our little ones entertained, and the breakfast options were a hit with the entire family, offering a delicious variety each morning.

We also experienced the True Blue Hotel Kalkan, another excellent option for families. With family-friendly room setups and a relaxing pool area, it’s a great place for a peaceful stay while exploring Kalkan.

Kalkan is known for its rooftop restaurants and local cuisine that’s both fresh and authentic. Here are a few standout places we loved:

Set in a former 150-year-old olive oil workshop, this restaurant serves traditional Turkish dishes. The Ottoman-style seating and terrace views make it a great spot for families looking to try authentic flavors.

Doy Doy Restaurant

Overlooking the harbor, Doy Doy is perfect for an evening out with elevated views and a menu that includes steaks, seafood, and cocktails.

A family-run spot just outside the main town, serving authentic Turkish dishes in a cozy setting. The garlic prawns and sizzling lamb were family favorites!

Packing Tips for Families Visiting Kalkan

To ensure a smooth family trip to Kalkan, here are a few practical packing tips:

Comfortable Walking Shoes: The Old Town’s cobbled streets and day trips around town mean lots of walking. Our boys wore crocs, and we had trainers or Birkenstocks.
Snorkeling Gear: The water is clear and perfect for snorkeling, so bring gear if you plan on exploring the coast, it's really fab with kids.
Sunscreen and Hats: The Mediterranean sun can be strong, even in autumn, so come prepared. Caps, especially if you're heading out on a boat for the day, are a ghame changer.
Waterproof Bag: Perfect for boat days or the beach, a waterproof bag will keep your belongings safe while you enjoy the sea.
Bundle Beds: Well, you didn't think we'd write a whole blog about travel and not mention these did you?!
